We miners entertained ourselves many different ways. The South American and Spanish miners did a dance called a fandango. All the miners gambled too. We gambled in cards, human and dog fights, and pretty much anything else. We bet 225 gold nuggets when we gambled on cards, and we won! In return, we got our 225 doubled and received 550 gold nuggets as a prize. There are a lot of different fights that other miners bet on, like bears vs. bulls, dogs vs. dogs, and people vs. people. There were also some different kinds of races like foot races, dog races, and horse races. When people gambled, they usually drank alcohol. Miners sometimes got themselves drunk and then got fooled into losing about a month’s worth of gold. The next day they would notice the missing gold and not even remember how it happened. We miners amused ourselves in a variety of ways. We gambled, drank, and danced. Miners usually did this in the evening of some mining days, and returned to mining the day after.
